چکیده

The middle-Pleistocene Xiashu loess deposit in the lower reaches of Yangtze River (LRYR), southern China, may yield evidence with significant climatic and environmental significance. However, its provenance remains controversial. In this study, grain size analysis, quartz surface microtextural morphological observations, enabled comparison LRYR those on Loess Plateau northern China. results show that characteristics do not follow coarse-fine NW-SE trend microtextures grains are distinctly different from indicating deposits two regions have provenances. Gobi Desert inland northwestern China considered as primary loess. Instead, adjacent floodplains LRYR, alluvial plains Huai Yellow to north during glacial periods suggested dominant source materials for Under background climate transition (MPT), regional aridity a strengthened east Asian winter monsoon (driven by global cooling rapid uplift Tibetan Plateau) were drivers development sustained eolian accumulation represent response subtropical area MPT event at around 0.9 Ma.

Climatic and drought characteristics in the loess hilly-gully region of China from 1957 to 2014

The loess hilly-gully region is a focus region of the "Grain for Green" program in China. Drought is the main problem in the study region. Precipitation and temperature are two indicators that directly characterize climatic drought. A thorough analysis of the precipitation, temperature and drought characteristics of the loess hilly-gully region can clarify the current water and heat conditions ...

Middle-Late Cambrian acritarchs from the Zardkuh area in the High Zagros Mountains, southern Iran: Stratigraphic and paleogeographic implications

The excellent preservation of the acritarchs, their great abundance, diversity and good stratigraphic control permit establishment of a detailed Middle and Late Cambrian acritarch biozonation. A total of 56 palynomorph species form the basis of 10 local acritarch assemblage zones. Assemblage zones I-II occur in the lower and middle parts of the Member C of the Mila Formation and suggest Early-m...

Middle Pleistocene Hominin Teeth from Longtan Cave, Hexian, China

Excavations at the Longtan Cave, Hexian, Anhui Province of Eastern China, have yielded several hominin fossils including crania, mandibular fragments, and teeth currently dated to 412 ± 25 ka. While previous studies have focused on the cranial remains, there are no detailed analyses of the dental evidence. In this study, we provide metric and morphological descriptions and comparisons of ten te...

Middle Pleistocene bifaces from Fengshudao (Bose Basin, Guangxi, China).

The Bose (also Baise) Basin in Guangxi, southern China is well known for the presence of Paleolithic bifacially worked implements. The Bose Basin handaxes came to the attention of the international scientific community primarily for two reasons: 1) the age at 803 ka (thousands of years), places it at the Early to Middle Pleistocene transition; and 2) the presence of bifaces tests the validity o...
